2013_05 Crossroads: Childrens Summer Lunch Program

May 1, 2013
by J. Losey

Crossroads - Summer Lunch for Children

Many children in the area receive free breakfasts and lunches at school. For some, these are the only meals they have all week. While summer vacation means a much needed break for most children, for others it means going hungry- no meals from school. Crossroads bridges this gap by providing a summer lunch program for kids.

We are putting together a team from St. David’s to cook lunches, serve and clean up, as well as provide a craft or some other activity for the children. The dates we will be serving are June 21st and August 13th. The time commitment is 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. If you are interested in helping please contact Jen Losey at jllosey@gmail.com or 248 379-5110.

2013_05 Confirmation Scheduled

by C. Hampel-Litwinowicz

Eight parishioners of St. David’s will be confirmed, received, or reaffirmed into the Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, at Christ Church Cranbrook in Bloomfield Hills.

They will join others from throughout the Oakland Deanery at this annual event, where Bishop Wendell Gibbs will preside.

Parishioners Rob McLandress, Nathan Nix, Ryan Miller, and Derek Sadaj will be confirmed. Natalie Sadaj, Ken Miller, Mary Lou Pfaendtner, and Linda Taylor will be received into the Episcopal Church.

Helping to prepare this year’s class are Susan Brooks and Tom Krell.

“Susan and I are really excited about the class,” said Krell. “We’re happy how many people have inquired about the Episcopal Church. Last year, four people were received from St. David’s.” This included Krell and his wife, Sandy.

Krell said that this year’s class includes people who were raised Episcopalian as well as former Catholics and a former Methodist. “It’s nice that St. David’s is attracting new people to the Episcopal Church.”

Sisters of Bethany

Because of our continuing relationship with St. Anne’s Mead, the entire chapter was invited to attend the annual Volunteers Luncheon at the Mead on April 17th! The two Carolyn(n)s attended and learned that most of the volunteers had been giving of their time for years and usually had become involved at the Mead because of the care given to a loved one who was a resident. This really impressed us with the quality of care offered at the Mead!
