Vandenberg World Cultures Academy
In January 2010 we began a partnership with our neighborhood school, Vandenberg World Cultures Academy. This K-5 magnet school serves students from 25 different countries and has 29 different languages represented.
St. David's volunteers assist in classrooms across all grade levels, providing extra help in literacy, science, social studies and technology. Strong bonds are formed between students and volunteers, resulting in positive new relationships.
In 2011, several new projects were added to our outreach. We collect boxtops and recycled magazines for the school and have also initiated a pen pal program between parishioners and 4th grade students.
Please consider becoming involved in any or all of our activities with Vandenberg.

Outreach at Vandenberg is underway for the new school year. Here’s what’s happening:
- Volunteer tutors will begin working with students in early November.
- The new Pen Pal Program will also kick off soon. Volunteer “writers” will be paired with fourth graders to communicate throughout the year. Watch the “Pen Pal Letters” box located on the table in the Narthex for the first mail delivery later this month!
- Don’t forget to save those recycled magazines and deposit them in the container labeled “Recycled magazines for Vandenberg.” This box is on the floor near the table in the Narthex. Magazines should be appropriate for elementary aged students - particularly boys.
- We continue to collect “box tops for education” for Vandenberg. Each box top is worth money and funds will help purchase needed supplies for the school. Our box top collection box is near the food pantry items in the Narthex.
Thank you for your on-going support of our ministry with our neighborhood school!
